I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas weekend! Now that the holiday madness has calmed down a bit, I can focus on one of my favorite holidays → New Years! I love New Years. I just love the excitement that fills the air as everyone waits for the clock to strike 12!
It’s almost bitter sweet. Saying adieu to another year always makes me feel a little sad; but at the same time there is so much hope and anticipation for the new year. It’s a time to start fresh, create new goals, and start a new chapter in our lives. It’s such an exciting time for everyone!
I also love all of the sparkle, glitz, and glam that goes hand in hand with New Years. If there’s a time to turn heads, it is definitely now! It’s so much fun finding an outfit that matches the lively atmosphere. I always go a little bit more extravagant in my outfit choice.
Unless it’s a Great Gatsby themed party, you will never see me wearing a sequin number. I don’t do sequins. Not even on New Years. But, I do like to get a little glitzy for the holidays. Who doesn’t want to sparkle and shine into the new year?!
Since sequins are not an option for me (and trust me, I’ve tried to wear them on numerous occasions), I like to stick with metallic fabrics. I find metallics to be festive and fun but a little bit more sophisticated than sequins. Plus everyone’s go to NYE look is sequins, so why not stand out?
Metallics have been making a huge statement in 2017 and not just during the holidays. They can be worn any time of year whereas sequins tend to give off too much of a ‘holiday’ vibe for me. If you proudly rock sequins then more power to you!

The bronze metallic oversized blazer from House of Harlow is one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe! I bought it back in October and I’ve worn it on many different occasions. It’s the perfect amount of glitz for anyone that doesn’t want to wear a full metallic number on NYE but still wants to wear something a little fun. I probably wouldn’t wear it somewhere super fancy but it’s perfect for a semi-casual party! I also LOVE that it is bronze. Bronze just doesn’t get as much love as silver and gold even though it should!
This blazer is festive and fun and can be dressed up with a dress or dressed down with a pair of black jeans. I like to call it my Elton John blazer; I am a happier person when I wear it. Honestly. I wore the blazer with a simple black slip dress and my satin over the knee boots from Mango. I finished off the look with my Daniel Wellington rose gold watch, which I’ve literally been wearing non-stop since I got it.
Let’s face it, wearing metallics instantly make you feel more energized, fun, and ready for a good time. Perfect for NYE!
Here are a few of my favorite metallic pieces. I’ve included everything from full gowns to more understated pieces like metallic pants or tops. And if metallics are still too much for you; you can go with a fun metallic shoe, or clutch!
