How do you get abs of steel and an ass that dreams are made of? Consistency, hard work, and dedication. We all want a body like Gisele but why is it so damn hard for us to stay motivated? Once I get the ball rolling I am Go-Go-Go. I never miss a workout, wake up extra early to get 10 extra minutes of cardio in, and happily eat kale for dessert. Once I fall off the wagon, however, it is GAME. OVER. Getting my butt to the gym or even doing a 10 minute Jane Fonda video sounds like pure torture.
“Cake for dinner? Sure, why the hell not.”
Luckily, I’ve found an easy and simple way to stay consistent and never fall off the wagon too hard.
What is it?
Never, and I mean NEVER skip your Monday workout.
A Monday workout (preferably first thing in the morning) will set the tone for the rest of your week. You’ll be twice as likely to commit to staying fit and making healthy choices. It helps you reset and refocus on your fitness goals.
It doesn’t matter if you spent your weekend relaxing in your onesie, brunching with your girlfriends, or partaking in drinking and debauchery, Monday workouts are ALWAYS HARD. Mondays are usually busy, stressful, and often times working out gets postponed to later and later in the day.
By 5 pm you’ve come up with 100 excuses as to why you CAN’T workout today.
And by 9 pm you’re face first in a pint of your beloved Ben and Jerrys. The trend continues through Tuesday..Wednesday…Thursday… and then it’s Margarita Friday and you’ve given up for the week.
I’m telling you… Monday workouts are MANDATORY!
Here are some creative ways to make sure you Move it on a Monday:
♥ Sign up for a class. Monday morning I sign up for an Orange Theory class. It’s literally the first thing that I do once I open my eyes. I go to Orange Theory only once a week and I strategically go Monday nights. If I cancel the class, I know that I will be charged a cancellation fee. Once my fingers hit “book class” I am 100% committed.
♥ Take a class at your local gym that you REALLY enjoy. Are you a Zumba fanatic? Save your Zumba days for Monday. This will help you look forward to your Monday morning workout.
♥ Reward yourself! My gym has a sauna/steam room that I love to use. I save my steam room session for Monday nights AFTER my workout. If I miss my Monday workout, I don’t get to go to the steam room.
♥ Go on a brisk walk first thing Monday morning. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a rigorous activity. As long as you have 20 minutes of physical activity.
♥ Find a support group. Find a friend or a group of friends to workout with on Mondays. They will help keep you on track and if they are your true girlfriends, they will bitch you out if you don’t show up to your scheduled workouts.
♥ Sign up with a personal trainer and make sure that you meet with them on Mondays.
♥ Getting your butt to the gym is easier if you’re wearing something super cute! I save my best gym clothes for Monday. It may sound silly, but it works for me.
Get creative and find ways to ensure that you don’t miss your Monday workout.
